Opinions expressed are my own. Respectfully living on Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung land. Father of adult daughters. Now a grandfather! Unapologetic intersectional feminist. Ally.
This man lives the values that some people label as Australian values. I personally think they’re human values, not uniquely Australian. But they should be values Australia aspires to genuinely possess. Whilst there are still many Australians that identify with, and do live, these values, it’s self evident that many don’t. As a 55 year old that has lived in Melbourne my whole life, it feels like we have gone backwards with regards to living values of respectful humanity. It’s hard do be sure as the world is now so different with social media amplifying the noise that comes from keyboard cowards. So I hope I’m wrong. Mainstream media outlets (especially those owned by a particular USA passport holder- the irony) certainly do their best to inflame tensions as well. Thank you to Kon Karapanagiotidis OAM for all that you do. You are the best of us, you make me want to do more, to be better. And well done on taking a well deserved break. We need you to stay healthy.
