How can we detect age-related diseases earlier – and thus take better preventive measures? 🧬 At PSI, researchers are using nanometre-precise imaging techniques to gain new insights into bones, the brain and cells – and thus into the mechanisms of ageing. 🦴 Marianne Liebi’s research shows that it is not only bone density but also its nanostructure that changes with age. Using an advanced X-ray technique, Liebi visualises these structures in 3D – to better understand why bones become more brittle. 🧠 Adrian Wanner is working on a detailed circuit diagram of the brain. Using an electron microscope, he achieves a resolution of 4 nanometres. This also aids in a better understanding of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. 🔬 G. V. Shivashankar is developing AI-based methods to detect age-related diseases at a particularly early stage: by analysing the structure of chromatin in the cell nucleus. Understanding diseases more precisely and detecting them earlier. 💡 ➡️ Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/dKnsXDgK 📖 Discover more stories on healthy ageing in the Magazine of the PSI 5232: https://lnkd.in/dK6dybrN #ResearchAtPSI #ResearchForHealthyAgeing #HealthyAgeing
