It was great to be back… Three years ago, I was in Bielefeld, Germany, sitting on a HUGE 11-metre vertical turning centre destined for Scandinavia. Two weeks ago, I found myself back there again - this time on the table of a much smaller machine: the new VT 28 Dörries from the Starrag Group. I was one of the first to get an up-close look at this new model, not only in its ready-to-ship state but also in build - which, in my opinion, is always the best way to truly understand a machine tool: with the covers off. With true multi-process capability, this vertical turning centre can turn, mill and even grind, all in an impressively compact footprint. I filmed several videos during my visit, and they’ll be coming to the MTDCNC channel very soon. Stay tuned!
