Sunday story: Rolf Fricke meets Gunther Leitz for the first time. About 10 years ago, Leica Camera North America was kind enough to send me an M246 to document some of my grandpa’s, Rolf Frickes, stories. He not only is the founder of Leica Historical Society, he knew the Leitz family and spent time with them. He also knew Walter Mandler, the famous lens designer. Growing up my dad used to tell us about vacationing up in Canada with Mr.Mandler, joking that he and his brothers could play outside when their math problems were complete. It was summer recess for them. Here is a quick clip of Rolf Fricke explaining his first introduction to Gunther Leitz.
