Disagreements often hit a wall: how do we know who is right? Centuries ago, philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz proposed a radical idea: instead of arguing better, why not eliminate arguments altogether? He envisioned a universal symbolic language, the 'característica universalis,' where every concept had an unambiguous symbol. Reasoning itself could become a calculation, allowing conclusions to emerge naturally. Leibniz imagined scholars resolving disputes by saying, "Let us calculate." While the technology wasn't available then, the dream of a universal language and logical computation persisted, influencing foundational ideas in mathematics and computation. #Philosophy #Logic #HistoryOfIdeas #Computation #SymbolicLanguage
