The Zambia Demographic and Health Survey (ZDHS) 2024 is officially out! It is a proud moment for Zambia’s public health community. The ZDHS 2024 has finally been released — and I’m truly honored to have played a significant role from the very beginning. From strategy development (which paved the way for Zambia to have its first-ever HIV prevalence estimate for children aged 2–14 years at population level), to resource mobilization, to firefighting 😁 along the way , Its here in the end! Here are some historic highlights from the HIV results: - For the first time ever, Zambia now knows the HIV prevalence among children aged 2–14: 1.2% - National HIV prevalence among adults has dropped from 11.1% (2018) to 8.7% in 2024 — a major milestone for the country’s HIV response - This is critical data that will shape programming, financing, and lifesaving interventions for years to come A huge CONGRATULATIONS to the hardworking and dedicated team at ZAMSTATS, Ministry of Health, cooperating partners, and everyone who made this achievement possible. Your technical expertise has given the country the evidence it urgently needed.
