James Taylor is being featured this week on the Jukebox. Click the link below to listen "on air", or stream until Sunday. ~~~~~~~~~~ One of the great singer-songwriters, James Taylor helped define the sound of a generation and inspired countless others with his warm baritone and reflective lyrics. 🍏 James’s big break occurred when he was signed to the newly-created (Beatles-owned) Apple Records in London. His self-titled debut album, recorded in the same studio The Beatles were recording the White Album, was reviewed positively, and paved the way for future releases. However, it wasn’t as successful commercially, partially due to a drug relapse and a disorganised label. 🏅 Returning back to the States, James released ‘Sweet Baby James’, a beautiful mixture of folk, country, and blues. It is considered to be one of the greatest albums of all time, and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2002. It not only launched James’s career, but heralded the beginning of a singer-songwriter era that featured Joni Mitchell, Carole King, and others. 💭 James has created an impressive catalogue of work that has thoughtful and introspective messaging. Whether conveying a longing for home in ‘Carolina In My Mind’, moving past grief in ‘Another Day’, or a plea for love in ‘Shower the People’, his songs evoke strong feelings that resonate with listeners. 🎸 Accompanying his vocals have been a number of different guitars. For a period in the 80s, a Yamaha was his acoustic guitar of choice, often playing an L55 Custom or FG-2000, which was used live and in the studio. 📀 His 19th and most recent studio album, ‘American Standard’, gave him the honour of being the first artist to have a Billboard Top 10 album in each of the past six decades! It shows the timelessness and power of a voice with something to say when combined with an acoustic guitar. 🎟️ You can see James perform with his All-Star Band across the U.S. in 2026, with other performances planned in the UK, Ireland, and mainland Europe: https://lnkd.in/dS6BQm4z. 📻 Listen to James Taylor and more on our 3-hour musical adventure of a show through the link below! 🔗 linktr.ee/thejukebox #jamestaylor #JT #sweetbabyjames #FolkRock #yamahaguitars60th #yamahaguitars #SpotlightArtist #CanadianRadio Julian Taylor 📸 Norman Seeff
