Remembering Philippe Stern | A note from Grant Partridge This week, I join many around the world in remembering and celebrating the remarkable life of Philippe Stern - a man whose vision, conviction and unwavering commitment to excellence helped shape not only Patek Philippe, but the future of fine watchmaking itself. Over more than two decades of partnership between Partridge and Patek Philippe, I had the privilege of meeting Philippe on a number of occasions during visits to Geneva. While his achievements within watchmaking are extraordinary, what always left the greatest impression on me was his deep respect for craftsmanship, his commitment to independence, and his understanding that true excellence is built over generations. As a fifth-generation member of my family's business, I felt a particular affinity with Philippe and the values he embodied. Although our businesses sit on opposite sides of the world, both Patek Philippe and Partridge remain proudly independent, family-owned enterprises built on the belief that heritage carries both privilege and responsibility. Philippe's contribution to horology is impossible to overstate. At a time when many questioned the future of mechanical watchmaking, he remained steadfast in his belief that artistry, innovation, and traditional craftsmanship would endure. His leadership saw the creation of some of the most important chapters in Patek Philippe's history, from the continued evolution of the Nautilus to the extraordinary Calibre 89, the establishment of the Patek Philippe Museum, and the introduction of the Patek Philippe Seal. Yet perhaps his greatest impact is not found in any single timepiece, but in the standards he set and the values he preserved. Those principles continue to guide Patek Philippe today and inspire collectors, watchmakers, retailers and enthusiasts around the world. In 2024, as we celebrated Partridge's 160th anniversary, we were honoured to welcome members of the Stern family to New Zealand. Their presence further strengthened a relationship that has grown over many years and reflects the mutual respect shared between our two families and businesses. It is a relationship we value deeply and one that we are immensely proud to continue. On behalf of my family and the wider Partridge team, I would like to express our sincere condolences to the Stern family and to everyone at Patek Philippe. It has been one of the great privileges of our business to represent Patek Philippe in New Zealand, and we remain profoundly grateful for the trust, friendship and shared values that have defined our partnership to date. Philippe Stern’s legacy will endure for generations to come. Grant Partridge Managing Director, Partridge
