“I felt very, very helpless, because there were many situations in which I just did not know what to do.” This week is Carers Week and we want to share Angelika’s story. Angelika cared for her husband Brian following his diagnosis with Parkinson’s. “One of the problems for anybody who has Parkinson's, or who is a carer, is that information is very difficult to get to." Brian sadly died in 2019. Following his death, Angelika wrote about her experience and published a memoir, 'Battling Parkinson's Disease: A carer's journey of discovery, hope and despair'. She found sharing what she learned with others in the community helped her. “I would also encourage every carer to ask, ask, ask. Ask until you understand everything about the disease, about the services available, so you get all the information that you can. “Last of all, don't be too harsh on yourself. The burden is heavy. These are tough times and you've got to remain intact, so don't judge yourself.” When you’re supporting or caring for someone with Parkinson’s, it can be hard coming to terms with the changes this can make to your life. We're here to help you. If you or someone you know is caring for a loved one, you can find out more information here: https://prksn.uk/43btKA6
