Most Amazon sellers treat slow price response as a cost of doing business. It isn't — it's an unmeasured operational gap, and it's fixable in a day. The damage rarely shows up cleanly in a P&L. It gets absorbed into "increased competition" or "traffic fluctuation," which is exactly why it goes unaddressed for so long. Meanwhile Amazon's Buy Box recalculates ownership dynamically, and in most consumer categories price is the single highest-weighted variable. A 3–5% gap above a competitor visibly tilts traffic — sometimes within two to three hours. The instinct is to build a scraper in-house. Teams I've worked with consistently underestimate the total cost: 20–40 engineering hours per month on proxy rotation, anti-bot countermeasures, and parser maintenance — at lower reliability than a managed API. I've written a practical breakdown of building an Amazon price alert system: the four core modules, the three realistic data-sourcing paths (and why SP-API can't monitor competitors), and how to connect alerts to automated repricing as a closed loop — detect, decide, execute, log.
