Today, on #EarthDay, April 22, 2025, I fulfilled a career goal of getting our program through 10 years of consistent annual sustainability reporting. While this goal of mine was not extraordinary, in a way it just might be a testament to resilience, determination, consistency and, quite possibly, a bit of crazy. In 2015, I was recruited into a project team at Equinix that believed the importance of #sustainability, #renewables and #efficiency would continue to grow. At the time, I was a new contractor, and eager to be busy. I was asked (thanks Chris Reid) if I could allocate maybe a week or two of work, to develop a corporate sustainability report (a what report?). Sure, how hard can it be right?! Some of you are giggling at just reading that estimation of time for the report development. Luckily. I didn’t know what I was jumping into back then and thankful for my persistent “If there is a will, there is a way” attitude. Nearly 9 months later, and several explanations to my “non-ops” managers that we really were coming out with a report, we finally released our FY15 progress. Yay!!! Relief! Accomplishment! All the good feels…. But, then I get a ping asking if I’m ready to do it all over again… Confusion.. Concern.. Denial.. and then finally, acceptance. I thought “what have I gotten myself into”?!! Fast forward 10yrs. So much learning and growth. So many opportunities to engage, initiate and define an initiative. That small agreement to support the development of a report that was not on any priority lists, was completely voluntary and cumbersome to pull together - was one of the best career moves I could have never planned. I am so thankful for the people that have always and continue to support me on this journey, especially to that core team Jennifer Ruch, David Rinard, Bruce Frandsen, Brian Thomas and those early cross-functional partners that I continue to learn so much from Arno van Gennip, Arjan Westerhoff, Craig Pennington, Greg Metcalf, Andrew Higgins, Antaeus Wheatley, David Hall, Michael Winterson. Thanks to our current program leadership Katrina Rymill, Christopher Wellise and executive team that supports all of this opportunity for continued success and growth as good corporate citizens. It is a wonderful thing, to help build a program that brings so much value, it becomes embedded into the culture of a company. The recognition we have achieved as leaders in sustainability from our CDP A-List recognition to Ecovadis and LEED, makes me immensely proud of all the work that Equinix has done, and continues to do. I am excited to discover new areas to grow the value and impact of our program through sustainability stakeholder engagements. Ten year career goal, check. ✅ #StayCurious #StayGrateful #StayHumble #BeDriven Let’s see what year # 11 holds!
