The first machine we sold abroad went to Greece. And to this day, it has never been paid for. When we talk to our founders about the early years of BBK, it’s often not the big successes that come up first—but the stories that stay with you for decades. One of them is about one of the very first machines BBK sold internationally. For a young company, that contract in Greece was a major milestone. The machine was built, delivered, and commissioned successfully. But when we recently asked Lothar Beck about that time, his answer came without hesitation: “I still haven’t been paid for that machine.” Today, it’s a story that brings laughter to the table. Back then, of course, it was a very different matter. But perhaps that’s exactly what company history is made of—not only successes, but also the experiences you learn from and can look back on together years later.
