We marked Earth Day by partnering with The Economist Educational Foundation for our annual live lesson on climate action. Our climate science experts Mikel Santos and Yasmin de Silva joined host Wumi Nuga to explore why learning through failure, and adopting a growth mindset, are essential in tackling climate change. The session connected live with 2,733 students aged 10 to 16 from 28 countries, spanning Australia through to Brazil. Together, they explored topics such as drilling in Antarctica and how science, politics and people shape the climate crisis. Students asked thoughtful questions like “How can companies help our planet?” and “Why aren’t people doing more to improve the environment?” By creating space for open dialogue and resilience, we’re helping inspire the next generation of climate leaders to turn setbacks into meaningful action.
