President and Group Chief Executive Officer at GMTGeos

With Dr Andrew Malone and Dr Steve Hencher during graduation dinner for MSc students after the graduation ceremony in the morning. Dr Steve presented to me “Halcrow Award” as a mark of distinction and overall best student for MSc programme for 2005/06. Dr Andrew Malone graduated with BSc in Civil Engineering but later pursue his post degree in geology and engineering geology. He was the Head of the world famous Geotechnical Engineering Office (GEO) of HK and was the last Head from Britain before taken over by local expert after the handover of HK to China. He was the man behind the establishment of MSc in Applied Geoscience (Engineering Geology) in Hong Kong University (HKU). The syllabus is based on Imperial College London. Currently he is the Honorary Professor at the Department of Earth Science, HKU Dr Steve Hencher is a world class engineering geology and rock mechanics expert. His career is interchangeable between academic world and practical world. Used to head Halcrow (China) with HQ in HK and now back to academic world in the University of Leeds, UK. He was the author of 2 excellent books, “Practical Rock Mechanics” and “Practical Engineering Geology”. I strongly recommend both books for any engineering geologists for reference.
