What happens at the edge of a black hole? Using the loudest gravitational-wave signal ever detected, OzGrav researchers Dr Ling (Lilli) Sun and Neil Lu have developed a new way to study the region closest to a black hole's event horizon — the point beyond which nothing, not even light, can escape. Their breakthrough research, published today in Nature, opens a new window onto one of the most extreme environments in the Universe.
