I’ve been applying for internships since about September of last year, which is just a round about way of saying a lot of applications, a lot of rejections and not a lot of good news. A couple of weeks ago I found out I had been selected for the N8CIR Summer Internship Programme at the University of Leeds, working on a research project around Explainable AI and readability evaluation. It’s a bit outside my comfort zone because research is new territory for me, but I think that’s probably the point. Eight months is a long time to keep going and it feels a lot longer when you’re getting daily rejection emails in your inbox. I say this as someone who would see these sorts of posts on my LinkedIn feed and think good for you, when’s it going to be my turn: The needle does move… eventually. I promise
