Recent media coverage reinforces the growing concern around the performance of Melbourne’s bus network in outer suburban areas, with commentary from OMC Mayors Cr Stefan Koomen JP and Cr Brett Owen highlighting the real‑world impacts on local communities. As reflected in the Victorian Auditor-General's Office (VAGO)’s recent findings, bus services in growth areas are often infrequent, indirect and not meeting the needs of residents. For Outer Melbourne Councils, improving bus services is a key priority in the lead-up to the 2026 State Election. A more reliable, connected and user‑focused network is essential to ensuring people can access jobs, education and services - and to supporting liveable, sustainable growth.
