On Day 2 of #OUTCOME2030, Raj Chetty, William A. Ackman Professor of Economics at Harvard University and Director of Opportunity Insights, joined Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols and Lafayette Square Institute's David Adetokunbo Williams spent an hour on what big data reveals about economic mobility and how is maps directly onto places private capital has overlooked. The data is granular enough to identify where opportunity has stalled, zip code by zip code. The communities that improved economic outcomes for residents were the ones where more adults got jobs. Employment is the driver. Mayor Nichols brought Tulsa as proof of concept. Targeted investment has already generated real results in Working-Class communities. The private sector opportunity is concrete. Chetty's research can identify the places that are outperforming their demographics. Private capital has largely not caught up to that data. We believe the investors who close that gap first have a structural advantage. #OUTCOME2030 Disclosure: Neither Mayor Nichols nor Mr. Chetty is a shareholder of Lafayette Square USA, Inc.
