A new space health research community is taking shape. On Thursday, July 2 at 11:00 AM ET, OSMED will host the next Spaceflight Epidemiology Analysis Working Group meeting, developed in collaboration with the Open Science Data Repository Analysis Working Group community. This new AWG brings together open science, human spaceflight research, epidemiology, biomedical data, and space medicine to explore one central question: How do the hazards of spaceflight affect human health, performance, adaptation, and long-term capability? The group is designed for researchers, clinicians, students, engineers, data scientists, citizen scientists, and space health professionals who want to learn, contribute, and help shape active research projects. You do not need to be an established expert in space medicine or epidemiology to attend. The goal is to create a collaborative space where different disciplines can work together, ask better questions, and turn open data into meaningful research. Topics may include astronaut health, physiological adaptation to microgravity, directed acyclic graphs, human system risks, open datasets, data curation, clinical translation, AI, machine learning, and the future of human health in space.
