🚨 Everyday Workshop Drama: "8 Garages Couldn’t Fix This TPMS Fault." "I’ve already spent hundreds of thousands of Naira on new sensors. Why won't this light go off?" A client brought a 2019 Range Rover Sport into Jaytech Autos this week with a very familiar story. The customer was exhausted. They had visited eight separate alignment centers and mechanical shops trying to resolve a stubborn Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) failure. Every previous shop looked at the standard OBD code and immediately prescribed the same solution: "Change the sensors inside the tires." The client listened. They replaced all four sensors... twice. When clearing the codes failed, calibration failed, and registration failed again, the car became "unfixable." The Diagnosis: Autotronics over Guesswork When the car finally landed in our bay, we shifted the paradigm. TPMS on a modern luxury platform like a Range Rover isn't a "tire problem"; it’s a communication architecture problem. We didn't just read the codes; we analyzed the CAN network. The diagnostic data pointed to a completely different component—not a sensor in the tire, but a specific receiving Antenna Fault. Many technicians overlook that tire sensors are low-power radio broadcasters. They cannot communicate with the central body control module directly. They broadcast to localized antennae located on the chassis frame (often one for each wheel) which act as translators for the network. The Fix and the Takeaway for Operators We physically located the defective antenna on the rear driver’s side, replaced it, and immediately performed a successful re-registration of all four tire sensors. After eight shops and weeks of frustration, the fault vanished in under a day. The Master Tech Lesson: The "erase" button on a code scanner doesn't fix a logic error. The diagnostic time you pay an expert technician isn't an "extra charge"—it is the insurance policy that stops you from buying parts you do not need. Autotronics engineering wins every time. 🛠️⚡ #AutomotiveOperations #TPMSDiagnostics #RangeRoverService #LagosAutos #JaytechAutomobile #DiagnosticMindset
