New cases of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), like cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes, will grow by 31% across #OECD members over the next 25 years due to ageing populations alone. Beyond their profound health consequences, NCDs also create major social and economic costs. They reduce productivity, raise healthcare spending, and constrain long-term growth. However, many of these diseases can be prevented by reducing health risks, detecting diseases early, and improving treatment. Countries that succeed in reducing key health risks such as obesity and tobacco use save lives, ease pressure on health budgets and unlock substantial economic gains.
