๐ฑ #EUOrganicAwards: Meet the nominees for Best Organic Female Farmer 2026 ๐ต๐น Susana Vilar Susana runs a 6.8 ha organic farm (Vilar da Monteirinha) in the heart of the Alto Tรขmega e Barroso Bio-region, cultivating blueberries, strawberries, and hazelnuts, certified organic since. 2014. ๐๐ซ๐ฐ She is restoring fire-prone landscapes into productive farmland while protecting biodiversity. Her collaboration with local beekeepers strengthens pollination and ecosystem resilience. ๐๐ฟ Beyond farming, she is committed to supporting marginalised communities, welcoming school visits, and creating opportunities that help rural areas thrive. ๐ฎ๐ช Kay OโSullivan Kay runs a farm with 70 cows and calves, and 90 sheep and lambs. Her farming practices focus on grass-based cattle production without grain feeding, using multispecies swards, diverse forage crops, and weekly grass measurements to optimise grazing efficiency and productivity. ๐๐ The farm has significantly reduced external feed inputs, improved soil health, and operates in harmony with nature. Beyond farming, Kay shares knowledge through community engagement, farm events, open days, and international study visits. ๐ค ๐ฌ๐ท Koutsouradi Argyro At Myrovolos Organics, Argyro cultivates 15 varieties of herbs, aromatic, infusion, and medicinal plants using smart farming practices and climate-resilient approaches. ๐ฟ Through meteorological monitoring, data-driven decision-making, research into halophytic species, and lyophilisation technology, the farm combines tradition, technology, and sustainability to create high-value products while adapting to climate challenges.
