As social media continues to shape what young people see online, parents and caregivers may not always recognize the slang, emojis and trends associated with substance use. Developed by OCDE's Youth Substance Use Prevention team, the Family Digital Literacy Toolkit provides practical resources to help families better understand today's digital landscape, including commonly used emojis and terminology, step-by-step Instagram and TikTok safety settings, and conversation starters that encourage trust and open communication.
