The commencement of construction on the NCH Discover Centre was formally announced yesterday by Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport Patrick O’Donovan and Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works, Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran. This important milestone marks the first phase in the wider redevelopment of the National Concert Hall campus at Earlsfort Terrace, with the ambition of transforming it into a world-class, accessible and sustainable national music campus. Funded by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport under the National Development Plan, the NCH Discover Centre is being designed and project-managed by the OPW, working in close partnership with the National Concert Hall. The project will deliver a new, purpose-built centre for music participation, learning and community engagement, including recital spaces, rehearsal and workshop facilities, and enhanced universal access. The OPW’s role reflects its continued commitment to delivering high-quality cultural infrastructure, re-purposing and enhancing historic buildings while supporting modern, inclusive public use. The NCH Discover Centre is scheduled for completion in early 2027 and represents a significant step in the long-term renewal of this nationally important cultural campus.
