Innovation doesn’t happen in a single step, so what builds it? The recent progress from our long-term project partner, DryFlow Magnetics (DFM) offers a clear example. As they accelerate the rollout of their waterless magnetic separation technology, the implications for more sustainable iron ore processing and green steel production are significant. Milestones like this are often the visible outcome of something much less linear: a pipeline of validation, iteration, and informed decision-making over time. Through its engagement with Optik across multiple rounds, DFM has worked with student teams to explore key questions, test ideas, and build out early-stage analysis, contributing to how they approach complex challenges. In conversation with us, Founder Brett Boynton, CFA reflected that DFM's work with Optik provided independent validation and analytical insight, helping inform decision-making and giving confidence in engaging external investors. Over time, that relationship has continued, not as a substitute for expertise, but as a way to access new thinking and incremental progress within a broader innovation process. It’s a reminder that meaningful outcomes are rarely the result of a single moment, they’re built through the right inputs at the right stages.
