At Optik, professional workshops are a central part of our interns’ professional development. This week, we were honoured to have Jan Patrick Frieding, one of our Industry Advisory Board members, to deliver a workshop on Systems Engineering. With more than 20 years of industry experience across systems engineering, medical devices, acoustics, technical leadership, and people leadership, Jan shared how engineering solutions are not just about building the parts, but about making the whole system work. The timing was perfect. Our 69 interns are now deep in the design phase, building real solutions for real clients with real constraints. Jan helped them step back and see the whole picture. Not just "can we build it?" but also "will it work, how will we prove it, and will it matter out in the world?" That is the shift from student project thinking to professional engineering thinking. Thank you, Jan, for showing up with such generosity and care. This is industry-embedded education at its best.
