Cycling to work is associated with a 46% lower risk of heart disease. The source is a UK Biobank cohort study of 263,450 participants, published in the BMJ in 2017. Cardiovascular mortality risk dropped 52% for cycle commuters against inactive commuters. These are not lifestyle claims. They are population-scale epidemiology from one of the largest commuter datasets ever assembled. So treat the commute as a clinical intervention, not a wellness habit. The dose is 20 to 40 minutes a day. The compliance rate is close to 100%, because you have to get to work regardless. The only variable is whether you spend that time in a car seat or on a bike. No gym membership, and no car, has those numbers. If you ran a health system and saw a 46% risk reduction from an intervention with near-perfect compliance, what would you do with it? #health #commuting #mobility
