Codex usage at OpenAI gives us a preview of what agentic work may look like in the future. A new OpenAI Economic Research paper finds that agentic AI is expanding the frontier of productive work: - Users increasingly ask Codex to take on work estimated to require 30 minutes, one hour, or even eight hours of human effort. - At OpenAI, Codex became the main interface for work-related AI use across the company, including non-technical functions. - Workers use Codex for a broader mix of tasks, including debugging, validation, automation, tooling, documentation, data transformation, and structured analysis.
