π The latest ROS 2 release, ROS 2 Lyrical Luth, is here! Lyrical is a long-term #ROS release with a five-year support lifetime that will be active until 2031 and supports Ubuntu 26.04 Resolute and Windows 11 as Tier 1 platforms. Lyrical is jam-packed with new features that enhance computational performance and developer ergonomics. Lyrical users can look forward to the following updates: π€ A new ROS IDL Buffer type that enables ROS nodes and topics to directly interface with accelerator hardware like GPUs without the need for extraneous copy operations, greatly increasing performance for computationally intensive tasks. π A new Callback Group Events Executor that reduces CPU utilization by 10 to 15% on most systems. π» A modern C++ development environment with C++ 20 support! π AsyncIO support for Python ROS nodes using modern "await" programming paradigms, greatly improving Python node performance. π A very long list of ergonomics improvements to commonly used ROS API primitives like launch files, parameters, logging, and bagging. To learn more about these features, please see our Open Robotics Discourse post: π https://lnkd.in/g6CmuzrD We want to thank everyone in our open-source community that made this release possible, including our contributors, maintainers, testers, build farmers, and OSRA members. We would especially like to thank Shane Loretz for acting as the ROS Boss for this release and Scott Logan for stewarding the ROS Build Farm through a long series of important updates and upgrades. Finally, as is tradition, we would like to announce our next ROS release, ROS 2 Makoa Mata-Mata, which will be released on May 21st, 2027!
