🤖 AI-Powered Job Recommender System Knovel Engineering shared their problem statement with us, and we scoped it down into several projects for students to take on. Kendrick Padasdao Tam and his teammates Bryan Tan Jia Jun, Jarius Ethan Yeo, Elfy Adrian, and Mohamed Azwan Mohamed Ali built an AI-powered job recommender system that matches students to suitable roles based on their profiles and credentials. The idea stemmed from Knovel Engineering’s vision of using AI to improve how candidates are matched to job opportunities. Using large language models (LLMs), the team designed a recommendation engine that analyses skills, educational background, and personal preferences to generate relevant job suggestions. This project was guided by Lecturer Mr. Brandon Gay, the lecturer for AI Project Development module. In addition, Ms. Jie Ai Lim from Knovel Engineering met and interacted with the team regularly, providing timely guidance and feedback throughout the development process. Like many real-world projects, the team faced several challenges at the start. The frontend had issues - unresponsive login buttons, missing navigation links, and layout inconsistencies. On the backend, the login process did not refresh properly, and data loading was slow. Through persistence and teamwork, the students refined their HTML and CSS layouts, fixed the click handlers, restructured FastAPI authentication, and optimised data loading for faster performance. By the end, they delivered a working prototype that connects user profiles to job openings using similarity-matching models. The final solution used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend, and Python with FastAPI for the backend. Core libraries included pandas, NumPy, sentence-transformers (SBERT), FAISS, python-jose, and passlib, with Uvicorn powering the server runtime. It was a proud achievement for both the student team and our partners at Knovel Engineering to see the prototype working successfully. Today, Kendrick Padasdao Tam continues his journey with Knovel Engineering as an intern, further developing his skills in AI and software engineering. We are thankful for the mentorship and support from Ms. Jie Ai Lim and the partnership with Knovel Engineering, as well as the dedication of the project team members and lecturers who turned classroom learning into practical innovation. #ITE #AIApplications #KnovelEngineering #CapstoneProject #LLM
