Today, the Ontario Heritage Trust, in partnership with The Nation Municipality and its Heritage and Culture Steering Committee, unveiled a provincial plaque to honour the Proulx Cheese Factory. The plaque joins nearly 1,300 provincial plaques across Ontario recognizing the people, places and events that have shaped the province. The Proulx Cheese Factory is a distinct example of the family-run enterprises that once dotted the former Caledonia Township. It highlights the important role cheesemaking played in rural Ontario more than 150 years ago. Today, The Nation Municipality continues to uphold its agricultural roots, with cheesemaking remaining one of its well-known traditions.
