It’s National Poetry Month! We’re showcasing E. Pauline Johnson (Tekahionwake), a celebrated writer, poet and performer. In the late 1800s, she toured North America and Great Britain, helping to shape early Indigenous and Canadian literature. She influenced how people saw Ontario, its lands and its peoples. Though public interest in her work has shifted over time, Johnson remains significant. Her legacy continues to inspire generations of Indigenous artists and storytellers across Ontario.
