FIFA set out to cut single-use plastic at this World Cup. Days before kickoff, it started letting every fan in US and Canada stadiums bring one in. Stadiums ban outside containers for security, so a reusable bottle was never an option. That left a hot walk to a refill station or buying water inside at souvenir prices. Stuck in an entry line in the heat, people reached for the simplest fix, and the simplest fix was a sealed plastic bottle. The bottle won because the bottle was easy. Swap the stadium for a hospital loading dock or an office floor and nothing changes. When sorting depends on someone choosing right while distracted, it works for a few weeks, and then the bin fills with whatever was closest to hand. Our read, after building two appliances around this: you don't win that moment by asking people to care more. You win it by moving the work off the person. We pull soft plastic and organics out at the source, right where they're dropped, so the easy option and the responsible one are the same thing. No willpower in the loop. The weak point is wherever doing the right thing takes extra effort. Where is that in your process?
