NEW: Fans in red jerseys have flocked to Moroccan cafes in the Massachusetts city of Revere bellowing “Dima Maghreb” as Atlas Lions supporters swarm the city during the World Cup. The phrase became the team’s ubiquitous rallying cry at the 2022 World Cup when Morocco made a stunning run to the semifinals. Many were excited to celebrate their team in a city where an estimated 10 percent of the population has Moroccan ancestry. Ahmad Adi, 50, was at Beyrut Espresso, a cafe, on Thursday hanging out with friends. He was taking his two kids to the game in Foxborough so they could witness the “special” moment. He expected to cheer for his beloved country at the top of his lungs. “Morocco is like the Brazil of Africa,” Adi said. “In the ’80s, we struggled, but now we are competing to be in the final.” He said he expected his family to “lose our voice, singing ‘Dima Maghreb.’” Latifa Chahour, in her red Moroccan jersey, was at the Casablanca House of Pastry also in Revere grabbing brunch with friends. She wanted to go to the game but failed to get tickets. The Fan Zone in Boston was sold out, so she planned to watch the game at one of the Moroccan cafes in the city. “We have a good team now,” she said. “Of course, we will win against Scotland and go to the final, Insha’Allah.” Can the Moroccan fans outdo Scotland’s Tartan Army? “They are more than us, but we will do our best,” Chahour said. “Dima Maghreb.” https://lnkd.in/gdPY8T5d #WorldCup #Boston2026 #Morocco #Scotland #GreatestShowOnEartg
