My cousin Pola Szajdenfisz Birman, a survivor of Gräben and Bergen-Belsen whose yahrzeit falls today, looked forward every summer to the publication of the latest Daniel Silva mystery featuring Gabriel Allon, the Israeli art restorer and spy.
