This weekend at the Ottawa Tamarack Marathon, I wasn’t on the course. I was at the finish line with my daughter and my son, waiting for my wife. Usually it’s the opposite. I’m the one running. She’s the one supporting. Seeing it from the other side changes something. You don’t just see finish times or results. You see people arriving at the edge of themselves and then going a little further. You see doubt, persistence, relief. Sometimes tears, sometimes laughter. Always effort that has been carried for months before that single moment. My kids saw it too. They didn’t ask many questions. They didn’t need to. They just watched. It’s hard to describe what that finish line means unless you’ve been there. That mix of exhaustion, pride, and disbelief that you actually did what you set out to do. I’ve lived that feeling as a runner. This time I got to witness it. A special congratulations to Olivier Delisle-Morency , Frédéric Pelletier-Côté , and Vincent Massé for their marathon performances. I’ve been following their training and effort over time, and it’s rewarding to see that work come together on race day, especially under tough conditions. Consistency shows up when it matters. Hard work doesn’t guarantee everything. But it absolutely creates moments like these. And yes, I’m still just a huge fan at heart, especially in those final meters.
