COOs across Europe are undergoing a major transformation, evolving from traditional factory-focused roles to becoming orchestrators of complex ecosystems. We believe this evolution is best understood through a framework of three overlapping and mutually reinforcing waves of priorities that will shape the COO agenda through 2030. Our analysis, based on insights from over 2,000 European COO profiles and linked interviews, identified these waves of priorities at varying maturity levels across plants, regions, and business units—highlighting that most COOs today are navigating all three waves simultaneously.
