The logistics industry talks a lot about driver shortages. But I wonder if we're spending enough time talking about planner shortages. As transport businesses grow, many operations end up asking the same planning teams to manage: more orders more customers more compliance more communication more reporting without increasing headcount at the same rate. The result? Planners spend less time planning and more time updating systems, chasing information and handling administration. With ongoing labour pressures across the industry, the question isn't always: "How do we hire more people?" Sometimes it's: "How do we help the people we already have work more effectively?" The operators gaining an edge seem to be the ones reducing manual tasks, improving visibility and giving their teams the tools to make decisions faster. In a market where margins are tight and expectations are rising, operational efficiency isn't just a nice-to-have anymore.
