Layers of light and wood Since 2018, the “Haus der Begegnung” in Grünwald has combined intergenerational housing, social services and public meeting spaces within a shared architectural setting. Designed by Goergens Miklautz Partner, the ensemble consists of seven two-storey buildings connected through extensively landscaped, traffic-free courtyards, creating a village-like structure with a high quality of stay. The project incorporates OKAWOOD White Seraya insulating glass with an integrated timber structure. The fine wooden grid within the cavity acts as a direction-selective sun and glare control system, responding to sun position and angle of incidence. At the same time, natural daylight remains an integral part of the spatial experience: warm-toned light enters through the intermediate gaps, while transparency and light transmission can be precisely adapted to the architectural context and functional requirements. Generous glazed stairwells create openness and visual connectivity throughout the complex, reinforcing the architectural concept of a shared place for different generations and social environments.
