This four-mile stretch, of which a large portion traverses the University of Maryland campus, represents one of the most complex and demanding parts of the assignment. Here’s a closer look at what made Segment 6 especially challenging: πŸ”Ή 4 stations within the University of Maryland campus πŸ”Ή 2.3 miles of track πŸ”Ή Track composition: 85% embedded, 10% ballasted, 5% direct fixation πŸ”Ή 262 utility conflictsβ€”roughly one every 45 feet πŸ”Ή 44,000 cubic yards of excavation (enough to fill 13+ Olympic-size pools) πŸ”Ή Strict construction windows aligned with academic schedules to minimize disruption πŸ”Ή Stormwater systems representing 65% of the scope, including: β€’ 3 underground detention ponds β€’ 230 storm drain structures β€’ 14,000 LF of piping (nearly 3 loops around the Pentagon) πŸ”Ή 66,000 LF of conduit (the distance from Wall Street to Central Park and back!) πŸ”Ή 222 overhead catenary structures πŸ”Ή Intensive maintenance of traffic coordination in a highly active campus environment The $2.9 billion project, delivered by Maryland Transit Solutionsβ€”a joint venture between FlatironDragados USA and OHLA USAβ€”has required precision, innovation, and relentless coordination. πŸ‘ Congratulations to all our project team members, our clients, and partners on reaching this milestone!Β Thank you all for your continued efforts in helping advance this project. #PurpleLineMD #Infrastructure #Transit #Construction #Engineering #Teamwork #ProjectManagement #Innovation #OHLAUSA #FlatironDragados #BuildingTheFuture #ComeBuildWithUs #WeAreOHLA
