A major leadership shakeup has hit one of the most recognizable Black-owned spirits brands. According to recently filed court documents, Fawn Weaver has been removed as CEO of Uncle Nearest by the court-appointed receiver overseeing the company. Her husband and co-founder, Keith Weaver, has also been removed from the company's operations. The move comes as Uncle Nearest continues navigating a high-profile legal battle stemming from a lender's lawsuit over more than $100 million in debt. The receiver, who has managed the company since 2025 under court order, says removing the founders has reduced operational confusion and will help stabilize the business as it works toward a potential sale. The developments come amid growing scrutiny surrounding the company. According to The New York Times, federal investigators have issued subpoenas as part of separate investigations into the company's finances and fundraising, though no criminal charges have been announced. For many, the news is especially significant given Fawn Weaver's role in building Uncle Nearest into one of the fastest-growing American whiskey brands while bringing long-overdue recognition to Nathan "Nearest" Green, the formerly enslaved distiller widely recognized as Jack Daniel's first known master distiller. We'll continue following this story as more information becomes available. #UncleNearest #FawnWeaver #BlackOwned #BlackOwnedBusiness #BlackBusinessNews
