What happens when governments make their algorithms visible to the public? Transparency is becoming core infrastructure for trustworthy public-sector AI. A new AI Wonk blog by Joy Aston from the #UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology explains how the Algorithmic Transparency Recording Standard (ATRS) is helping operationalise that shift. The article shows how ATRS: ๐Ÿ”น provides a structured way for public bodies to document algorithmic tools ๐Ÿ”น strengthens accountability and public trust in government decision-making ๐Ÿ”น supports safer deployment through earlier risk identification ๐Ÿ”น demonstrates how transparency and security must be balanced in practice ๐Ÿ”น offers lessons for countries developing their own transparency frameworks With 125 records already published and international collaboration through GPAI and partners such as #Estonia, ATRS is emerging as a practical reference point for making government use of AI systems more explainable and responsible. This work benefited from a partnership with the CEIMIA Centre of the GPAI Expert Community. ๐Ÿ‘‡ #AIPolicy #PublicSectorAI #AlgorithmicTransparency #TrustworthyAIย #ATRS
