The OECD.AI team was back in Bangkok this week for our second co-creation workshop on the AI Policy Toolkit and the AI Dialogue on Global Challenges and Local Opportunities, co-hosted by #Thailand and organised jointly by the #OECD, #Japan and the #UnitedKingdom. Hosted at the Japanese Ambassador’s residence, the workshop brought together senior officials from across the region for three days of practical exchange on AI governance priorities. Highlights included: • A discussion on priorities for the OECD-SEA AI Dialogue, including national strategies, AI safety and LLM governance • Private-sector participants sharing experience implementing the HAIP reporting framework • A keynote by Stephen Clare on the AI Safety Report 2026, followed by Singapore’s examples of managing AI risks in practice • Discussions on multilingual and locally developed AI and compute capacity across Japan, #Indonesia, #Singapore, Thailand and #VietNam • OECD colleagues presenting work on AI in education and health alongside use cases from Thailand and #Timor-Leste • A visit to Thailand’s AI Governance Practice Center (@AIGPC) at ETDA providing insight into implementation on the ground A heartfelt thank you to all participants for their active involvement, to Thailand for co-hosting, to Japan and the United Kingdom for their partnership and support, to Japan's Ambassador to Thailand for welcoming us to his residence, and to the British Ambassador for hosting a reception. It has been encouraging to see how strongly Southeast Asian perspectives are shaping the AI Policy Toolkit platform’s next steps. Looking forward to continuing this work and ensuring Southeast Asia’s perspectives and voices help shape international AI governance.
