Did you know every time you send a 2fa code a fairy dies? Well not really BUT...There was a time not that long ago when changing a DNS record was simple. The developer logged in on behalf of the client, changed an A record, hit save, job done...website live... Client updates their password...all is well... ...Now? You need a phone, an app, a code, a deep breath, and possibly a support group a sit down and a pillow to scream into. Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a nightmare of development misery. Every time you so much as look at a DNS setting, it’s: “We just need to verify it’s really you.” Yes, it’s me. It’s still me. It’s been me for the last 14 login attempts. God help the developer or web designer managing multiple domains. Codes back and forth between devices like you’re defusing a F*cking bomb. Change one record...2FA. Add a TXT? 2FA. Fart in the wrong direction? Congratulations, more 2FA. I always recommend owning your own domain and yes, security is important but these“enhanced domain protection” are nonsense and exist for one reason only... ...to rinse a few extra quid from their customers. Yes, I'm looking at you GoDaddy... A simple job becomes a logistical challenge of calls, messaging or emailing sometimes up to 6 codes between client the client and the developer with both sides getting fustrated. Yes, we get it security is important. But when you think about it, IF someone has somehow managed to get in to your account then we can assume they have your phone in your hand anyway so another 13 or so 2fa codes makes sweet fa difference. My rant is over but if you got this far and the next time you purchase a domain you save yourself a few quid then my time writing this was worth it.
