🌊 OceanCare is currently attending the 11th Our Ocean Conference (OOC11) in Mombasa, Kenya (16–18 June 2026), held under the theme '𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗢𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻, 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲'. The Our Ocean Conference is not a decision-making forum, but an important annual conference to connect decision makers, private sector, scientists, conservatists and civil society, discussing progress and challenges relating to the marine environment. State representatives and participating institutions are invited to submit commitments on current and future engagement. 👉 OceanCare has a special connection to this conference: at OOC9 in Athens, 2024, the Greek State announced its commitment to collaborate with OceanCare and The Green Tank in implementing the 𝗦𝗔𝘃𝗘 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀 alert system in the Strait of Kythira, resulting in an Memorandum of Understanding to protect the endangered Eastern Mediterranean sperm whale population by 2028. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗢𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲: 🔹promoting the High Ambition Coalition for a Quiet Ocean, 🔹discussing the ocean-climate nexus, 🔹the need to reduce the ecological footprint of shipping, 🔹a call from civil society on governments to end the fossil fuel era, 🔹efforts to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fisheries, and more. The discussions at OOC11 are also closely linked to promote the ratification, but also preparation and implementation of the BBNJ Agreement, an important framework for conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity beyond national jurisdiction. 🌊 OOC11 is also a key opportunity to establish new contacts and explore potential partnerships, including promoting the community conservation, capacity building, and marine governance efforts of our partner organisation BEES (Benin Environment and Education Society), addressing the poaching of marine species, known as Aquatic Wild Meat. 🐢 Representing OceanCare on the ground: Nicolas Entrup, Director of International Relations, and Maximin Djondo, Expert on Aquatic Wild Meat and Director of BEES. #OurOceanConferece #OOC11
