Ivano Scotti is an environmental sociologist at the University of Naples Federico II. Within the Ocean‑H2 project, he works on the social acceptability of this innovation — specifically, offshore hydrogen production — and he analyses policies and regulations, while also contributing to stakeholder engagement. At the moment, UNINA is conducting an in‑depth analysis of existing policies and regulatory frameworks to understand the potential limitations that this innovation may face. In the next phase, they will engage stakeholders not only to understand their perspectives, but also to actively involve them in the innovation process. This approach helps us prevent early opposition and, at the same time, improves the overall quality of the project. Although they are currently in the design phase, offshore hydrogen production has the potential to become a highly effective and cost‑efficient solution for producing green hydrogen in the future. The Department of Social Sciences is tasked with jointly performing social research and scientific communication, ensuring the project fully complies with the principles of Responsible Research and Innovation and providing clear guidance on social readiness in the selected marine communities.
