I was checking the tech news and saw that Roblox just launched a massive update: real-time AI chat rephrasing. Instead of just blocking banned words with "####", their AI now actively rewrites users' sentences to be "more respectful" before they ever hit the chat. For example, if a user types “Hurry TF up!”, the system intercepts it and changes it to “Hurry up!”. This is a fundamental shift in consumer software. We are moving from AI as a passive filter to AI as an active mediator of human-to-human conversation. Doing this at Roblox scale—they have tens of millions of daily active users—with near-zero latency is an incredible technical feat. But the UX and social implications are even wilder. An LLM is now sitting in the middle of a chat log, deciding what a user actually meant to say. For everyone building AI features right now: where is the line between reducing friction and putting words in your users' mouths 😶 ?
