Name a more chaotic architectural flex than Chambord. I’ll wait. 🤔🏰 King Francis I built this absolute unit of a palace in the 1500s to show off to his rivals. It’s got a medieval fortress vibe on the bottom, a Renaissance party on the roof (complete with 800+ sculpted columns and chimneys), and a mind-bending double-spiral staircase inside. But here’s the plot twist: the King only stayed here for about 50 days total because it was a logistical nightmare to keep warm! 🥶 Thankfully, his wine legacy aged much better. 🥂 Francis I originally introduced the unique Romorantin grape variety to the region. Today, the estate has replanted those historical vines, meaning you can literally sip history right where the French royalty used to hunt. But while the castle was too massive to ever properly heat, Francis I got one thing exactly right: the wine. 🍇 He ordered thousands of vines to be planted in the region. Today, Chambord has brought its historic vineyards back to life, producing organic estate wines right outside the castle walls.
