Today's edition of the Insai Salone programme on Nyapui Radio 106.1 FM Kenema featured the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) for the Eastern Region, Joe Kamanda Bongay, who shared his vision and priorities for policing the region. *Hosted by Seibatu Briama.* During the discussion, ACP Joe Kamanda Bongay expressed gratitude for his appointment to the Eastern Region and commended the people of the East for their strong commitment to peace and security. He said he has enjoyed a warm reception since taking office, attributing his successful start to the support of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), his fellow officers, community leaders, and other stakeholders. Kamanda emphasized that effective policing can only be achieved through strong collaboration between the police and the communities they serve. According to him, one of his first priorities upon assuming office was to build relationships with journalists, civil society organisations, traditional authorities, youth groups, and other community stakeholders. He encouraged members of the public not to fear the police but to see them as partners in maintaining peace and security. He called on the media to continue providing credible information that will help the police identify and address crime. ACP Bongay stated that his leadership style is not one of sitting behind a desk but of working closely with his officers on the ground to ensure that justice is served and communities remain safe. He stressed that the Sierra Leone Police has shifted from being a "Force" to a "Service," placing greater emphasis on serving and protecting the people. He further explained that he regularly tours the Eastern Region to assess the security situation, boost the morale of officers by patrolling with them and ensure the safety of lives and property, which remains the core mandate of the Sierra Leone Police. Speaking on the fight against drugs, ACP Bongay said tackling drug abuse requires the collective effort of everyone. He urged parents and guardians to take a keen interest in their children's activities by checking their school bags, bedrooms, and the company they keep, as this can help prevent involvement in drugs and other criminal activities. On the situation in Yenga, the Regional Police Commander assured listeners that the area is currently calm and peaceful. He expressed confidence that continued cooperation among stakeholders would help sustain lasting peace. Addressing traffic management, ACP Bongay noted that traffic officers are professionally trained to carry out their duties. He warned that any police officer found guilty of misconduct or abuse of authority would face thorough investigation and, where necessary, dismissal from the force in accordance with police regulations. In his closing remarks, ACP Joe Kamanda Bongay called on every citizen to play an active role in safeguarding their communities. "Security is everyone's responsibility.
