NUS Law Professor Simon Chesterman shared his perspectives on AI and privacy in his recent commentaries in The Straits Times and Singapore Law Watch. As AI evolves from information retrieval to relationship-mediated computing, the privacy question is more than just what data is collected, but also what kind of relationship is being simulated. As AI systems increasingly derive value from inference, the regulatory challenge extends beyond data collection to questions of whether sensitive inferences are being drawn, whether those inferences are necessary, and how they may be used to shape user behaviour.
